In 1990 the board of directors of the "Jakobshornbahnen" led by Carlo Schertenleib planned to build a ski hut near the mountain station of the “Clavader” Ski elevator. The Châlet Güggel was built in the summer of 1991 and opened in December of the same year.

Initially the mountain restaurant had only 35 seats inside and 100 outside. Four expansions now accommodate 300 guests inside and 600 outside.

The cozy ambience and the mountain hut style have not been changed by these expansions; because of skillful planning and leveling a charming and intimate ambience prevails.

The name “Güggel” comes from the history of the Jakobshorn Cable Car.

In the 60's the Greek designers of the cable car, regularly celebrated with barbeques held in front the workshop (current location Güggel), to which without exception roasted “Güggeli” were served.

One day, quiet Davoser an observer of these ceremonies painted a "Güggel" (Rooster) on the outside of the Cable Car, giving us the inspiration for our logo.

The name search yielded many proposals, like Châlet Tinzenhorn, Châlet Mundaun. An old friend even proposed Châlet polar bear or home of the homeless penguin… But defying all this originality I embraced the beautiful “Güggeli” tradition as it was too close to my heart!

Yours, Philippe Charles
